Hands Off: It Takes 2
✊ Hands Off: It Takes 2
CANCELLED, please attend the one at the state capitol by 50501 from 1-3pm.
📍 Iowa State Capitol – Sidewalks Only
🗓️ Friday, April 19, 2025 | ⏰ 12:00–2:00 PM
Our voices were loud on April 5—and now we’re back for round two. Hands Off: It Takes 2 is the next wave in our growing protest against the attacks on our democracy, our rights, and our people. From reproductive freedom to LGBTQ+ protections, from the economy to veterans’ care—this administration keeps putting hands where they don’t belong.
This peaceful protest will take place on the public sidewalks surrounding the Iowa State Capitol. To remain within your legal right to protest in Iowa, please remember:
- Stay on the sidewalks at all times
- Do not block pedestrian traffic
- Be respectful and firm—we lead with strength, not violence
Bring signs, friends, and your voice. This protest belongs to all of us—especially the people of 50501, who know that real change starts at the grassroots.
💥 Let’s make some noise that echoes through the dome. Because it still takes two—you and your voice—to defend our democracy.
Fun warm up twist, to the tune of “It Takes 2″…by DJ Rob Base & ez Rock
Now’s the time, you’re about to be impressed… by the power of the people and this protest!
🎤 I wanna protest right now (let’s go!)
Too much takin’ and breakin’ the vow
They mess with our rights, our voice, our pay
We say “Hands Off”—not today!
50501, we’re back in stride
Showin’ the country how we unify
From the first “Hands Off” to protest #2
It takes the people—me and you!
✊ It takes two to make a change come right
It takes two to keep up the fight
It takes two and a storm of will
It takes two—are you in still?
🎤 We bring the thunder, we bring the rain
We’re here for justice, we name the pain
From seniors, vets to LGBTQ—
If you’re hurt by this admin, we’re fightin’ for you.
So lace your boots, bring your sign
April 19—we draw the line
It’s peaceful, proud, and powered by peeps
From the grassroots right up through the streets!
✊ It takes two to hold the line
It takes two—your voice and mine
It takes two—so don’t delay
Be there. Be loud. On protest day!
SEE YOU THERE!
I’ll be the idiot, whose body is crap, asking for your help to climb on stuff to take photos. 🙂
Is there any way to coordinate with other groups? People were so confused at the last one on April 5 as to what was going on. They thought the first rally thay walked to the Capitol was the second rally and were disappointed it was so short. I am not organizing so I do really feel bad complaining but how do we get together?!
I completely understand the confusion—honestly, I’ve been feeling it too. I have been reaching out to other groups (including the ACLU, 50501, pol-rev.com, “Bitches Get Stuff Done” and Stand UP for Science Iowa), but haven’t had much success yet. I think that lack of coordination might be part of the problem.
I’m more than happy to collaborate and would love help from volunteers. Right now, it’s just me trying to hold this together, and I’m doing my best because I know how disappointing it’s been when past protests felt disorganized or unclear.
This time will be different:
We are not splitting up across locations.
We will meet at the northwest corner of Finkbine and Grand.
We’ll keep it to no more than two people wide so we don’t block sidewalks.
There will be no organized marching this time. This is about standing together, building relationships, and laying the groundwork for stronger future actions.
This is an ALL-IN moment.
As in—we are ALL IN this together.
Thanks for inquiring with a good question!
Judy
So let’s talk. Not shout over someone on a mic. Not strain to hear a speech in the wind.
Let’s really talk, connect, and figure out how to fight smarter—together.
***EDIT***
I truly did not mean to cause confusion, I honestly couldn’t find an event already posted. As you are probably aware (but just in case!) our protest call was cancelled as it accidentally interfered with the “Official” 50501 supported protest planned.
I am the Founder of Bitches Get Stuff Done. You have not reached out to me. Please do not say you have, as that is simply not true. We are more than happy to coordinate with other groups. We’re fighting the same fight. This is not the time for competition. This is the time for cooperation.
Yes it is the time for cooperation.
I reached out to everyone I said I did. I have the phone records to prove it. I even called again to clarify Heaven’s most pleasant comment below.
Hi admin,
I am one of the cofounders of Bitches Get Stuff Done (BGSD) and not once have we received notification of your “event.”
Your event has come to the attention of me, and I have NOT failed to notice that it coincides with the actual 50501 Mutual aid rally event that is being held the same exact day from one to three at the Iowa State Capitol complex.
I am curious as to why you have done this, as it only creates more division amongst the circles in which we all work in.
You have my email now, because apparently you failed to look it up. If you could kindly respond to me in a timely manner, I would be much appreciative.
We announced our event on Facebook on Sunday, you announced yours after ours. Again, I did not fail to notice that.
I am awaiting your response with bated breath
I have to say, this looks more like you don’t want to cooperate with people.
I am more than willing to talk about the miscommunication, as that was what this was.
I cannot find YOUR EVENT LISTED ANYWHERE. I reached out to you about it last week. I reached twice, and again just a moment ago.
I don’t use FB, a lot of people don’t anymore due to whose pockets it lines. I use Bluesky, and only Bluesky.
Had someone returned my call, you wouldn’t leave this post for all to see.
